The Nutrition Advocate is a collection of health professionals who are committed to educating and advocating for consumer health. We do not advocate for nutrition professionals, idealistic views of what we believe nutrition should be, brands, products or services. We just want what is best for the consumer.
Anyone who writes for The Nutrition Advocate must take The Pledge. The Pledge is a commitment to excellent, science above sales, pragmatic advice above brand, and a commitment to exhibiting the highest levels of professionalism.
Too many in our field fall victim to the illusion of explanatory depth. They know the talking points but they can’t fully explain how anything works. They parrot nutrition information but they don’t deeply understand it. Now, to a certain degree, we’re all parrots. No one can know everything but we must be willing to acknowledge our own limitations. As part of The Pledge, we need to acknowledge when we’re wrong, correct our mistakes, and learn from them.
The Nutrition Advocate isn’t a professional organization here to advocate for our members. If you suck, you suck, we’re not advocating for you. We’re also not tied to a particular ideal (low-carb diets) or brand. If there isn’t data and science to legitimately support your claims, they’re just opinions and opinions are a dime a dozen. We don’t care about them and we’re not here to support you.
We don’t want to come across as rash or hypercritical but the field of nutrition needs to be elevated, we need to raise the bar on our professional standards. If you’ve got what it takes, we’d love for you to write for us. If you’re a consumer, please trust that we have your best interests in mind and enjoy our content.
