A Message from Our Founder
Hello, my name is Todd Weber PhD, RD and I am the founder of The Nutrition Advocate. Every day I’m bombarded with news stories and advertisements that make me either roll my eyes, scream at the television or make me lose my mind. The world we live in is a little ridiculous. Once second I see an advertisement for liposuction (cool sculpting), the next I see a commercial on why conventional produce is going to kill me and why I should eat organic instead, the next I am told that, if I exercise, I should be drinking watered down low calorie beer, meanwhile, the very next commercial I am confronted with a story of a little African girl named Sharu, who has to walk several miles through a dried up river bed to fetch and then drink contaminated water. We are so spoiled in the United States, that it’s not even funny. So many of our nutrition problems aren’t problems at all, they are problems of affluence.
I created The Nutrition Advocate to voice my opinion and speak to power on some of these issues. I believe that everyone has a right to do whatever it is that suits them but so much of our food marketing and our health & wellness culture is downright harmful and as a highly trained health professional, I feel that it is my obligation to point out the discrepancies between how you are told to achieve health and how you actually really can achieve it.
If you would like to learn more about me, you can visit my LinkedIn profile or the other two businesses that I have started, Energy Balance Nutrition Consulting and The Science of Dieting. The Nutrition Advocate serves as a separate, independent website where I, and others, can share their thoughts on nutrition independent of their brands. In today’s day and age, we all have “brands”; however, my brand isn’t tied to a particular product, my brand serves Science, Nutrition, and the Consumer’s best interests. At the end of the day, I’ll stand behind that. I’m proud of that. And I hope that other people feel the same way I do and will help me change the culture of health and wellness into one that is realistic, science-based, and accessible to all.
